GNU Backgammon is the best software you can play play backgammon against computer. You can ask computer the best attack, set the dices or you can determine specific positions.
The archive includes World Backgammom Championships from 1973 to 2008. Just extract "bg_championships" and open one of the .mat file from gnu backgammon. If you change bg_championship folder's name that includes a space (for example bg championship), software may not open it.
